Description
The variety with many names! It was originally known by the name Alkmene, and rebranded in the UK in the 1990s as Early Windsor.
There are two 'sports' of Early Windsor; 'Red Windsor' and 'Ceeval' ( a sport means all the variety is genetically identical, sharing the exact same DNA. The difference is largely aesthetic; Red Windsor and Ceeval both have a more distinctively red skin. They are both also Trade Marked names so 'someone' can get a few more pennies out of the propagation and sale under these names! At Adam's Apples, we grow, sell and promote Early Windsor.
It is a crisp, sweet/sharp tasting apple, with good aromatic qualities similar in flavour to Cox Orange Pippin. It is ready to harvest mid-September and will store for a few weeks.
