    Apple trees benefit from occasional lime spread beneath them. Do this in the Autumn and let it wash into the ground through the winter.
    This helps trees resist canker through building stronger cells. Your apples will keep better as they will get less bitter pit, this is a calcium deficiency seen on larger apples when you cut them open as brown spots through the apple flesh.
