Description
Woolbrook Russet is a large, sharp cooking apple that mellows with storage to a sweeter, richly flavoured fruit. It was raised by the Woolbrook Nursery in Sidmouth, Devon at the turn of the 20th century and makes a nice alternative to Bramley, a variety with which it shares a similar sweet/sharp flavour. It is a moderately vigorous tree and will often crop heavily, with apples ready to pick mid-October and at their best in January. Interestingly, it boasts one of the highest concentrations of vitamin C when compared to other apple varieties.
