Description
Highly celebrated by growers as one of the richest-flavoured, longest-storing winter pears suitable even for northern or colder climates due to its exceptional blossom frost hardiness. Greenish-white, smooth, and melting flesh that is intensely sweet, juicy, and heavily scented with a rich, delicate perfume.
A word of warning - it is an inherently weak growing, smallish tree and needs some cosseting! Trained against a wall or in a sheltered, sunny location will be best. It will struggle if planted on a challenging site or is allowed to be swamped with grass!
Raised in Belgium and brought to Britain in 1818, Winter Nelis is widely championed as one of the ultimate winter storage pears.
