Description
For many years everyone has believed this variety to be Ball's Bittersweet - raised in Herefordshire, a cross between Medaille d'Or and the Old Foxwelp. Accept, DNA testing in 2022 revealed it is not actually Ball's Bittersweet and is in fact completely unique!
Fortunately, it makes a great bittersweet cider. It is one of Ross On Wye's favourite single variety ciders, and is one I use at home for our own cider making. A mid-season, mild bittersweet, similar to Yarlington Mill. We thought we would follow Ross On Wye's lead and call it 'Not Ball's Bittersweet', until someone comes up with a better name!
Flowering late May, harvest for pressing late October/November.
